Pulpotomy is performed to treat tooth decay or infection that has reached the pulp in a primary tooth. It removes the diseased portion while preserving the healthy root pulp, relieving pain, preventing further infection, and allowing the tooth to stay in place until it naturally falls out.
When a primary tooth has deep decay that exposes the pulp but the roots remain healthy.
When the tooth shows mild, controllable pain without signs of irreversible inflammation.
When there is no swelling, pus discharge, fistula, or abnormal mobility.
When X-rays show intact roots without signs of resorption or periapical pathology.
Primary approach towards Pulpectomy
The decayed portion of the tooth and the infected pulp in the crown are carefully removed, leaving the healthy root pulp intact.
A medicated dressing is placed over the remaining pulp to promote healing, and the tooth is sealed with a filling or crown to restore function and protect it from further decay.
